Pore Size Distribution Derived from Soil–Water Retention Characteristic Curve as Affected by Tillage Intensity

چکیده
Tillage practices can influence the pore size distribution (PSD) of soil, affecting soil physical and hydraulic properties as well processes that are essential for plant growth, hydrology, environmental studies modeling. A study was conducted to assess effect no-tillage (NT) conventional tillage (CT) on PSD derived from soil–water retention curves (SWRCs) using van Genuchten’s equation (vG) at 0–15 cm 15–30 depths in a sandy loam soil. Values or slopes (C(h)) were calculated SWRCs by differentiating vG equation. Soil water under both systems within two determined evaporation HYPROP method. The fitted measured data. diameter (D) pores retaining various matric suctions (|h|) soils capillary significant observed macro-pore (D > 1000 ?m, |h| < 3 hPa) meso-pore between 10 300 classes, while micro-pores class unaffected depths. Larger values C(h) CT associated with greater loosening induced operations proportion large (structural porosity) occurred compared NT. Macro-pore proportions significantly than NT parameters its derivative function be used compare distributions untilled tilled conditions.

متن کاملWater Retention and Characteristic Curve
A soil-water characteristic (SWC) curve describes the amount of water retained in a soil (expressed as mass or volume water content, m or v) under equilibrium at a given matric potential. An SWC is an important hydraulic property, related to size and connectedness of pore spaces, hence strongly affected by soil texture and structure, and by other constituents, including organic matter. Modeling...

to examine how water retention characteristics in a landfill environment change as a result ofsolid waste settlement and to derive the evolution of pore size distribution, a lab scale long column experiment was carried out at two different time periods while keeping all the other characteristics constant. two columns, column 1 and column 2, were used in the study. the log normal distribution mo...
متن کاملPorosity and Pore Size Distribution
A soil’s porosity and pore size distribution characterize its pore space, that portion of the soil’s volume that is not occupied by or isolated by solid material. The basic character of the pore space affects and is affected by critical aspects of almost everything that occurs in the soil: the movement of water, air, and other fluids; the transport and the reaction of chemicals; and the residen...
